What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid skin is normally smooth, but over time, the eyelid stretches, the fat bulges, and the muscles weaken. These changes are most often caused by age, heredity, and sun damage. To address these issues and achieve effective eyelid rejuvenation, eyelid surgery is performed.
This procedure is sometimes also called under-eye bag surgery since it can be used to reduce the puffy appearance of the lower eyelids by smoothing them out.
Am I a Good Candidate for an Eye Lift?
The best candidates for blepharoplasty are those who are in overall health, have realistic expectations, and are non-smokers. Smoking can increase the chance of post-surgical complications and must be avoided several weeks before and after the procedure.
During a consultation, Dr. Laquis will ensure that eyelid rejuvenation is right for you. This will include discussing your complete medical history, looking over before and after photos with you, and performing an examination.
Excellent experience with upper eyelid surgery
Excellent experience with upper eyelid surgery. Entire office very professional. Appointments on time. I went to sleep waiting to go the operating room and the surgery was literally over before I knew it. Had a minor problem after stitches were out; called on a Saturday morning and the Dr. responded, by telephone, within 2 minutes of my contacting the answering service and the issue was resolved. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Laquis
Eyelid Surgery Techniques
Blepharoplasty can be done to either the upper or lower eyelids. When it is being performed on both sets of lids, the upper eyelids are corrected first.
Upper blepharoplasty, or upper eyelid surgery, maybe a covered procedure by insurance if we can prove the sagging skin obstructs peripheral vision. The excess skin and fat are removed from a small incision hidden in the natural eyelid crease. If the upper eyelid is droopy, the muscle that raises the lid may need to be tightened.
Lower blepharoplasty, or lower eyelid surgery, can be performed through an incision on the inner surface of the eyelid to remove fat. If excess skin needs to be removed as well, a small incision may instead be made just below the lower eyelid lashes. Often laser resurfacing or a chemical peel may be used to further smooth and tighten the lower lid skin.

The Healing Process After Blepharoplasty
Once your blepharoplasty surgery is complete, you will need a ride home from a friend or a family member, since you will not be able to drive on the same day as the procedure. During your recovery period, follow the instructions of Dr. Laquis closely to achieve the best eyelid surgery results possible.
Keeping your eyes moist during eyelid surgery recovery is vital. This can be accomplished with the help of prescribed eye drops or topical ointments. Additionally, wearing sunglasses will block wind and pollutants.
Sunglasses can also help to prevent sun damage to the temporarily weakened eyelids. Make sure to wear proper sunscreen and avoid long periods of sun exposure during this time.
Eyelid Surgery Cost
While functional blepharoplasty may be covered by your health insurance company to some degree, purely cosmetic eyelid surgery is not. The price of this procedure will be impacted by the techniques used, the overall time the procedure takes to perform, and many other factors.
To aid with eyelid surgery costs, Prosper Healthcare Lending can help with financing. Find out more during a consultation.
